What is Chromecast

Chromecast is a device manufactured by Google with which we can send content from our mobile phones, tablet, or even computer to the television where it is connected.

That means that whatever you have on your smartphone, you will be able to see it on TV, with the consequent enlargement of the screen, which will favor viewing in many cases, such as a YouTube video, to give you an example.

This type of device is called a dongle, which has a USB, but it connects to the TV via HDMI and has a processor inside to handle all the possibilities it offers.

By linking with the house’s WiFi, it is achieved that we do not have to use any type of cable to connect the mobile to the television. Depending on the version we buy, neither will any operating system affect us since it is directly connected, not as it happens in an Amazon Fire TV Stick, which, must be handledif it has software,

The condition to use the Chromecast is that you have Android 4.0.3 or higher for phones with Google software or iOS version 7.0 for Apple devices, regardless of whether we are talking about an iPhone 14 or an iPad Air 5.

How does a Google Chromecast work?

You must know two concepts to understand how a Chromecast works.

On the one hand, DLNA technology connects devices with the same WiFi or Ethernet network. In this case, a device will be themachinthe eer of the content, which can be changed so that the rest are receivers.

The other technology we need to understand is Miracast. In this case, the signal is sent from one device to another through WiFi Direct, which means that the synchronization is done between two devices using the WiFi network but directly between them.

Knowing the two previous concepts is necessary because Chromecast uses both systems to achieve the connection. This type of protocol is called Google Cast.

How to set up a Chromecast

It is not complicated at all to configure a Chromecast, as you will be able to see below, so rest assured.

The first thing we have to do is put it on TV. For that, the device must be connected to one of the multiple HDMI that the TV has and the USB cable that comes with it; you plug it into the mains with a charger or a USB from the TV capable of charging.

Once successfully connected, we will see that on the screen, it tells us to download the Google Home application for the mobile or tablet ( Android or iOS, it does not matter). Do not forget to see the name of the Chromecast since we will need it to connect it.

Once the Google Home application is installed, press the + symbol at the top left to see the Add and manage menu. Then click on Configure device to later enter Configure new appliances so that the application recognizes our Chromecast.

Since Google Home is an application to manage connected, intelligent devices, we must choose the house we are in. Once done, you will see how it asks you if you want to configure the Chromecast it has found.

We check that it is the same name as ours and if so, we click on Yes. Then we must confirm that the same code on the mobile also appears on television.

Now it asks us if we want to send Google the information about how we use Chromecast to help improve it, to which we will say Yes (we can say no). Then you have to choose the location of the device’s house.

Then we will select the WiFi network we want to use in the Chromecast having to enter its password.
