The award was taken home by Olivia Rodrigo for the first time just a year ago, and other recent winners include such major hitters as Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and Cardi B. The list of nominations for this year is full with stars like Gayle, whose violent break-up pop rock smash “ABCDEFU” went viral on TikTok, and Latto, whose highest-charting song, “Big Energy,” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. Both of these artists are on the list of contenders for this year. However, this merely scratches the surface of the issue. You can discover the whole list of nominees for the 2022 Best New Artist award right here, and you can learn more about the nominees for that award by scrolling down below. The awards event will take place on Sunday, August 28.

Baby Keem

Baby Keem is Kendrick Lamar’s nephew. He has been able to establish himself as a successful artist in his own. With the release of his breakthrough track “Orange Soda” in 2019. Since then, he has released “Praise God” and worked on a project with the renowned Ye. He also released his first studio album, The Melodic Blue. Which he produced on his own in September of last year. It reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number five. However, he places a high value on family, as seen by the fact that he and his cousin collaborated on a track titled “Range Brothers” in which they tackle a variety of subjects, ranging from their own upbringings to betrayal.

Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron has already demonstrated her musical abilities throughout her time spent working for Disney and in NBC’s production of Hairspray Live! in 2017. These performances garnered her a nomination in the ensemble category for Best Musical Moment at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards. However, ever since the singer-actress signed a record deal with Columbia’s Disruptor Records, she has been working to grow her career in the music industry. Her gay love ballad “Boyfriend,” which is certified gold and is about wanting to treat her love interest better than her crush’s boyfriend, debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year. The song is about wanting to treat her love interest better than her crush’s boyfriend. She is now working on her upcoming first studio album, and she featured lads having breakfast on her most recent single. The song is titled “Breakfast.”

Gayle and her knack for carrying a viral breakup ballad garnered legions of admirers thanks to TikTok.  When she was spotted by Kara DioGuardi, a former judge on American Idol. This led to her signing with Atlantic Records. Her pop-rock track “ABCDEFU” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one on the Global 200 chart. It also reached number one in a number of other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and Malaysia, among others. The success was followed by the release of an extended play (EP) in March 2022 entitled A Study of the Human Experience Volume One, and a second volume is anticipated to drop on October 7 of this year.

Back in 2019, Latto made history with her debut single “Bitch from the Souf.” Rappers Saweetie and Trina contributed to the remix of the song. After securing a recording contract with RCA Records. She worked with Gucci Mane on the follow-up single, “Muwop.” Which will be included on her debut studio album, Queen of da Souf.  Which will be released in 2020. The following year, Latto achieved even greater success with “Big Energy,” which reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number three. Her groundbreaking successes have resulted in a number of honours, and a Video Music Award for Best New Artist would be an additional significant one.

Fans of Eurovision initially fell in love with the Italian glam-rock band Zitti E Buoni in 2021. When the band’s protest song “Zitti E Buoni” won the competition and became a massive hit. And Mneskin kept the party going, garnering global notoriety. With their cover of “Beggin” by The Four Seasons, which became popular on TikTok.  Topped the charts in a number of countries across the world. In addition to that, they intend to perform their single “Supermodel” live on the VMA stage. It has been some time since guitar music was so extensively loved across the world; yet. It appears that Mneskin is capable of inspiring nations to work together for a common purpose.

The South Korean boy band Seventeen is well-known for their extensive involvement in the majority of the production. Their own work, especially in the areas of composition, choreography, and performing. When they first appeared on the music scene in 2015. They released an extended play (EP) titled 17 Carat, which went on to become the K-pop album. That spent the most time on the charts in the United States that year.

All went on to produce four studio albums and 12 EPs. Released their most recent studio album, Face the Sun, in May 2022.  As well as a repackaged version of the album Sector 17 in July.  Dubbed “Performance Kings” and the “K-Pop Performance Powerhouse” by Korean outlets. They went on to produce four studio albums and 12 EPs. They also made history in 2021. By becoming the very first K-pop act to ever be featured on the MTV PUSH channel. These performance monarchs are aiming to add one more significant achievement to their already lengthy list of accomplishments, and a win for Best New Artist would be exactly that.

Dove Cameron winner of VMAs Best New Artist at 2022

Dove Cameron won the Moon Person award for best new artist at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 28). This was her first win at the VMAs, even though it was her first time being nominated.

Cameron was given the award by Avril Lavigne, who won in the same category in 2002 for her breakthrough hit “Complicated.” Cameron said she was “so floored and so moved” to win this year. She then gave the award to “all of the queer kids out there who don’t feel like they can take up space and be the full version of who they are” and thanked them for their help in “getting an overtly queer song onto mainstream radio.” She was talking about “Boyfriend,” which was her biggest hit in 2022 and was about trying to get a woman to leave her male partner.

Cameron was one of six people who were up for the award, and he was one of the three finalists, along with the Italian rock band Mneskin and the Korean boy band Seventeen. The singer-songwriter praised her fellow nominees, saying that some of them were some of her “all-time favourite artists.”

This spring, “Boyfriend,” which reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, was Dove Cameron’s biggest hit. Cameron sang a smoky version of the song and her new single “Breakfast” on the VMAs’ pre-show. It was her first time ever performing on MTV’s biggest night. She also gave the award for song of the summer to the VMAs’ co-host and opening act, Jack Harlow, for his No. 1 song on the Hot 100, “First Class.”
